Society defines success as financial status, job title, or social media followers.
But these are the byproduct of being successful.
Success for successful people isn’t a tangible thing or achievement.
Success means a stable mind that knows how to think and what to think instead of letting external situations influence their thought process.
As Dave East has rightly said:
“Being self-made is a state of mind, and once you put that mentality to work, your success will come.”
And to be self-made, you need rules. Discipline. Habits. Routines.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from reading about successful people’s lives, 9/10 have followed similar rules early in their lives to set themselves up for the benefits society calls success.
I share some basic rules that some highly successful say helped them perform to their greatest ability.
7. Don’t work for a short-term prize
Most people think money is the reward for your actions.
It isn’t.
Money is a tool to dig for more money.
It’s not just about making a quick buck. It’s about using that cash to create more cash.
Take Warren Buffet, for example.
He was making moves when he was just 11 years old. He was living off a measly $1-a-week allowance, but he was smart.
He put the rest into the stock market, and by the time he was 30, he was worth over $10,000 — that was a lot of money in the 1950s.
And then there’s Lori Greiner.
She’s a boss. She’s an entrepreneur, investor, and television personality. She always knew she would start her own business, and when the time came, she used her $1200 tax return money to fund it.
And now, she’s worth over $150 million. She’s created over 500 successful products with 120 patents to her name.
So, the point is, no matter how much money you earn, always think about how you can increase it.
Start your own business, make wise investments — use that money to create more money.
That’s the key to financial independence.
6. Question the status quo
Steve Jobs was one of the most iconic examples of this.
He famously said,
“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”
Successful people often challenge convention and push the boundaries to think outside the box. They are not afraid to ask tough questions, even if it means going against what everyone else is doing.
This is probably why many successful entrepreneurs fail in their first few attempts — they dared to think differently.
Although it might not be easy to push the boundaries of society, it is essential if you want to achieve success.
5. Worship this wealth
The greatest wealth isn’t money.
It’s your health.
That’s right; your health is the most precious thing you’ve got.
If your body isn’t functioning better, nothing else will matter. The successful folks know this.
CNBC wrote an article about how exercise is the only habit that made guys like Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Cuban, and Richard Branson. And they all made it to the top.
Jack Dorsey is no exception. He’s up at 5 in the morning, doing a real intense workout session, getting himself in top shape before running a multimillion-dollar company.
Now, you don’t want to risk your health because that will set you back big time.
Getting in shape is tough before you make your first move.
4. Attack the demons first
We all got that one task that makes us wanna crawl under the bed and hide. It haunts us every waking minute until we finally say, “screw it,” and get it over with.
But there’s an easier way to save yourself the hassle.
Tackle that demon task first thing in the morning.
Don’t let it linger and stress you out all day.
Get it out of the way when you’re fresh and energetic. You’ll be better equipped to handle whatever the day throws at you.
And the best part?
As the day goes on, it’ll just get easier.
By the time you’re ready to clock out, you’ll be chilling with the easy stuff and prepared to enjoy the rest of your evening, all stress-free. Bam!
3. Build connections with clarity
Success comes with support.
You have to be a social butterfly — with — a — purpose.
And successful people know how to network. They make connections. They talk to people. They learn from them.
And leverage them if needed.
Richard Branson once said in his interview that he learned how to network when he was a door-to-door salesman. He’d greet folks even if he weren’t going to make any money. Because he knew that one day, those folks could be his loyal customers.
2. Quiet the restless mind
To be successful, you must learn how to be alone.
You need to practice mindfulness and get in touch with your inner voice so that when it’s time to make important decisions, you know what the right thing is.
Look at Bill Gates. He spends much of his free time reading books and studying. He’s an avid reader and always looking for new knowledge. And meditation helps him to stay grounded and aware of his thoughts. He says it allows him to keep things in perspective and think clearly.
So if you want success, take some time to be alone.
Get in touch with your mind and body — this will help you make the right decisions.
1. Get up and show up
You can’t just hide in bed all day.
Successful people know that the grind doesn’t come easy.
They make sure they get up early, dress up (even if nobody sees them), and start their work day with a plan of attack.
Although it might seem tedious and mundane initially, it can be the difference between success and failure.
Show up each day — with a plan of attack — and don’t let anything stop you from reaching your goals.

Hello. Thank you for all your good content and advice. We will be really happy if we can follow these.
#5, exercise. I have more energy than everyone I know. I believe it's because I exercise every single day. Usually first thing. Sometimes after lunch. I feel bad for people who don't or won't do this. Of course, it's their choice. But if they only knew how much better it would make their life.
